About us

The University of Oviedo’s Seafarers’ Wellbeing (SWELL Uniovi) research team is dedicated to advancing the wellbeing, safety, and quality of life of maritime professionals through a multidisciplinary approach. Its research focuses on six key areas: human factors and bridge resource management, psychological wellbeing and mental health, fatigue and environmental stressors, occupational safety and health, equality and inclusion, and violence and harassment prevention, providing evidence-based solutions to improve working and living conditions at sea.
Munster Technological University – National Maritime College of Ireland (MTU NMCI) contributes extensive, industry-leading expertise to maritime mental health, counseling, and wellbeing training through the SeaSaFE Programme. The program provides tailored psychological support and skills while actively addressing critical industry challenges through targeted prevention strategies against bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, and violence. As part of this commitment to a safer maritime culture, we equip crews with specialized Bystander Intervention Training to promote accountability and mutual support on every voyage. NMCI establishes the standard for comprehensive wellbeing and safety training for cadets ensuring a safer and more supportive global maritime sector.
University of Crete (UoC) team brings expertise in work, social and organizational psychology, with a particular focus on maritime psychology. The team conducts research on organizational culture, human resource development, team performance, strategic human resource management, and performance improvement, contributing evidence-based approaches to enhance seafarers’ wellbeing, safety, and the effectiveness of maritime organizations.
Gabriele d’Annunzio University (Ud’A) contributes expertise in applied and organizational psychology, with a particular focus on human resources and workplace wellbeing. The team supports research on psychosocial factors, organizational dynamics, and evidence-based interventions, contributing to the development of healthier, more inclusive, and high-performing maritime work environments.
